Your keys. Your device.

Cockroach Chain Corp never sees your seed phrase, password or keys, and can’t move or freeze your funds.

  • Your keys stay on your deviceThe seed phrase is encrypted with your password using PBKDF2-SHA256 (600,000 iterations) and AES-256-GCM. It never leaves your browser.
  • Unlocked keys live in memory onlyWhile unlocked, keys sit in memory-only session storage and are wiped on lock, auto-lock and browser exit.
  • Brute-force lockoutAfter repeated wrong passwords the wallet makes you wait longer before each new attempt, up to an hour.
  • Hard fee capsEvery network has a maximum fee built in, so a misbehaving node can’t trick you into overpaying.
  • No host permissionsThe extension can’t read or change the websites you visit, has no content scripts and accepts no messages from other extensions or sites.
  • No trackingNo analytics, no ads, no account, no crash reports. The publisher runs no server for the wallet.
  • Duplicate-send protectionPending transactions are tracked, so the wallet warns before an accidental double send.
  • Security-reviewed before releaseVersion 0.7 went through a production security review of key storage, signing, fee logic and UI race conditions, and every finding was fixed before release.

Questions

Is Cockroach Wallet free?

Yes. The wallet is free. You only pay the normal network fee of the blockchain when you send a transaction.

Which browsers are supported?

Google Chrome version 110 or later, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Other Chromium browsers that install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, such as Brave and Microsoft Edge, also work.

Can I import my existing seed phrase?

Yes. Any standard BIP-39 phrase of 12 or 24 words works. Ethereum-type accounts use the path m/44'/60'/0'/0/0, the same first account as MetaMask. Cosmos accounts use m/44'/118'/0'/0/0, like Keplr.

What if I lose my seed phrase or password?

Your seed phrase is the only backup. If you forget your password you can remove the wallet and import the seed phrase again. If you lose the seed phrase, nobody can recover your funds, including us.

Write it down on paper and keep it offline. Never type it into a website, chat or form.

Can I add a custom network or token?

Networks: no. To protect users from fake networks, only listed chains are available. Chain teams can apply for listing, and approved chains arrive in a wallet update.

Tokens: yes. You can add any token by contract address or denom. Tokens that aren’t on the verified list are clearly marked as unverified.

When is Cockroach Chain supported?

Cockroach Chain is already in the network list as “coming soon”. It will be enabled in a wallet update when the public testnet launches.

Does the wallet collect my data?

No. The publisher collects nothing. To show balances and send transactions, the wallet talks directly to public blockchain nodes. Read the privacy policy for the full list.

How do I report a security issue?

Please report it privately through the Cockroach Chain security page. Don’t post security issues in public channels.
